Months Later…New Site

In Results on March 24, 2010 at 2:18 am

I haven’t posted much on here in awhile because I have been busy.  My time off actually was quite a milestone in my life, much more than I can express yet.  As each day passes, it becomes clearer how that month helped shape the path I am on now.  To keep it simple, I will share one tangible manifestation.

Here is my the first draft of my new personal web site:

More to come down the road.

Painting Day Pt II Results

In Results on July 30, 2009 at 6:30 pm

During my discretionary day I decided to paint another icon, Iron Mike Tyson.  I framed the borders for a cinematic feel & also used grayscale except I highlighted Mike with real colors.

I’m sticking to the plan of making a lot more of these to start selling them.  I think Jordan is next…

Please note the gray borders will be properly painted in once the rest dries.

Photography day was an interesting experience for me…

I don’t have much photo experience under my belt AND the day didn’t go as well as I planned in my head.  I did a shoot with a lovely young lady in the early day, then shot some fun shots with a mic, but ended the day brainstorming on some interesting photo ideas. I realized at the end of the day that I wasn’t approaching it correctly.  I didn’t follow my style and look for an idea to focus my efforts.  It was also great reminder (as I was told to me by a friend and a fortune cookie) that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.

Good learning experience and practice with the camera.  Here some shots:

Personal Brand Results

After spending some time gathering feedback from friends and life, I put together my personal brand files…

Establishing this will help guide my actions, decisions, and overall approach to adding value to my life.  It includes the typical brand elements but I also revamped my resume format and made an attempt at a logo (still working on it).

Philosophy Day Results

Nothing tangible to present today after reading all day but I will share my experiences:

1. Subway Ride

Reading on the subway was actually great because it was an experience of aimlessly riding without continually looking for a stop.  I ended up in Coney Island, stopped at Nathan’s and read on the beach for about an hour. I completed one book and made it halfway through the other.

2. What I learned

I read Philosophy Gym and Story of Philosophy which are both great books for anyone who is interested.  The books provide tools to apply a philosophical approach to life.  It also presents different philosophical questions/situations with many perspectives.  Reading each section is great exercise for developing your thought.

Mainly, the books helped sharpen mental clarity in the attempt to seek truth and define certain topics and questions. I didn’t reach any definitive conclusions, but I recognized that the value is in the iterative process of training yourself to find truth through philosophy.  What also came to the forefront is the importance of stepping back from life to examine it, otherwise, we become sheep to all of society’s values, morals, and philosophies.

3. A few small quotes

“One thing only I know, and that is that I know nothing”

“Philosophy is at the front trench in the siege of truth. Science is captured territory.”

“Life is  gift of nature, but beautiful living is a gift of wisdom.”

“Every individual is a cosmos or a chaos of desires, emotions and ideas; let these fall into harmony, and the individual survives and succeeds…”

Painting Day Results

Spent most of the day painting this Bob Marley piece… I still need to add the quote to the right side but I’ll save that for another day.

I had a really good time eventhough I didnt take a break. My back hurts, I’m hungry, and I’m a mess. However it has inspired me to really set aside Sundays for painting and building out an inventory of paintings for my secret business idea.  Who should I do next? Mike? Anyone Tyson, Jordan, Jackson ?… (hip hop heads, where’s that line from?)

Here is the painting:

Enjoy. I’m gonna take a shower.

Advertising/Marketing Results

This has been a good kick start to my time off.

Woke Up. Worked Out. Watched Morning TV. Handle Emails. Then got into it…

I just kept reading articles, visiting sites, downloading PDF’s and the best part was I never felt any anxiety that I should be doing anything else.  I feel refreshed already.  I realized it was great to re-engage with the industry that I am part of for many reasons:

– I was reacquainted with the creativity, ideas, solutions, and great thinking that originally inspired me

– Re-established the type of work and problems that I always want to solve

– I’m also excited for all the potential that is yet to come. The promise of an interesting yet unknown future is what keeps me motivated.

Here are a few nuggets of thought from today’s conquest:

Social Media in the Future

It’s the hot topic. There is a lot of hype.  A lot of potential.  An article mentioned all media becoming digital from TV to print,   I began to wonder the effect that would have on how we consume media?  We already highly connected but now our media would also be part of our social identity.  I immediately thought of this physical radio that utilized social media.   I wouldn’t listen to traditional radio anymore, I would essentially tap into what my Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn/Gmail contacts…were interested in.  It would be one big incestuous orgy of cyber sharing.  Mass media may become irrelevant…

This thought gave me another reason to continue immersing myself in social media in order to survive in the future.

Clutter of Information

Ironically as I read away all day, I  stumbled across these daunting facts about the information overload that we all face here:

– The total of all printed knowledge doubles every 4-5 years

– 4,000 books are published worldwide every day

A million web pages are created each day

Time remains constant while the information we can consume is rapidly increasing.  If your attention was divided before, its truly a challenge for brands to get any form of engagement from a consumer moving forward.  Marketers need to be bold, simple, and foster the proper frequency to break though in this age of information overload.  (Thanks for spending some of your precious time reading this, ha)

My iPhone Has Changed Me.

This is more of a thought but my iPhone has definitely shifted my web behavior in two ways:

1. I spend increasingly less time accessing the web on a computer and more on my phone

2. I no longer visiting certain websites because “there’s an app for that”

I won’t go any further, but you have to ponder how the smartphone will eventually affect the ‘traditional’ web…

I have more thoughts but I have other things to finish reading. If you want to chat about anything…hit me up?

Looking forward to getting back to work… in a few weeks, ha.
